Montessori Method – Learning in Freedom within Limits



Course organisers will send to the participants list of materials related to the course topic they can read in order to prepare for the course. Organisers will be available if participants need any information related to the accommodation, plane tickets or any detail necessary in organising the course.

Course description

21st century teacher is faced with various pedagogical approaches that can be challenging to apply in traditional classroom. One of those approaches is Montessori, developed by Italian doctor and educator Maria Montessori. She made an extensive research on holistic child's development, and the results were amazing. Montessori Method is based on human development, and the stages of child's development is crucially important to learning. In this approach, the discovery model is crucially important; when children themselves learn concepts from using the materials. Environment is very important in this approach, as well as learning materials. Participants on the course will get theoretical and practical knowledge about Montessori Method; the lecturer will instruct them on how they can apply Montessori in their classrooms. Participants will compare traditional approach to Montessori approach. During the course, we will make authentic Montessori classroom.

Trainees will be given soft and hard copies of all lesson materials, which they presenting  to their colleagues at their own organizations to generate interest in 21st-century teaching methods with creative thinking. In addition, a mailing list of participants will be created in order to exchange ideas/experiences. Self-evaluation materials will be provided. At the end of the course the participants will accomplish a questionnaire in order to get a detailed feedback for the effectiveness of the training event.

  • The advantages of constructivist/discovery model: Students learn concepts themselves
  • Learning from working with materials
  • The role of teacher in Montessori approach


  • The importance of freedom in Montessori method
  • Specialised Montessori materials: What do we need for practising Montessori
  • Montessori approach: Different view to pedagogy
  • Montessori in mixed classrooms

Day 5 – FRIDAY

  • The importance of movement within Montessori method
  • Montessori education: Model of human development
  • „Normalisation“ in Montessori – from 3 to 6 years

Days 6/7 – SATURDAY and SUNDAY Workshops and Cultural/Sightseeing Activities

Day 8 – Monday

  • The importance of learning environment
  • Different stages of development: Acquisition of language
  • Second stage: Interest in small objects
  • Order, sensory refinement and social behaviour

Day 9 – Tuesday

  • Developing according to inner laws of development
  • Authentic learning in Montessori
  • Reality of applying Montessori in today's classrooms: Critical debate

Day 10 – Wednesday

  • Feedback, Course Evaluation and Dissemination Focus
  • Awarding certificates of attendance
