Course description

The "Cybersecurity and AI Ethics in Schools" training course is designed to familiarize primary and middle school teachers and school staff with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital reality responsibly and securely. Over six days, participants will explore essential cybersecurity practices, understand the ethical implications of using AI in educational settings, and develop practical strategies to safeguard students, staff, and school systems. Through interactive sessions, real-life case studies, and collaborative activities, attendees will gain the confidence to implement robust digital safety measures and ethical AI policies in their schools.

Follow-up

Trainees will be given soft and hard copies of all lesson materials, which they can present  to their colleagues at their own organizations to generate interest in the strategies learnt during the training course. In addition, a mailing list of participants will be created in order to exchange ideas/experiences. Self-evaluation materials will be provided. At the end of the course the participants will fill in a questionnaire in order to get a detailed feedback for the effectiveness of the training event.


Programme of training activities day-by-day:

Day 1 – MONDAY 

  • Welcome and objectives of the training
  • Introduction to Cybersecurity - key concepts: data security, privacy, and cyber threats
  • Common risks in schools: phishing, hacking, malware, and ransomware

Day 2 – TUESDAY 

     Cybersecurity Policies and Procedures: 
  • Developing school-level cybersecurity protocols.
  • Password hygiene and data protection practices.
  • Case study: A school-facing data breach.

Day 3 – WENDESDAY 

     Secure Use of School Devices and Networks 
  • Guidelines for managing shared devices and networks.
  • Importance of secure Wi-Fi connections and VPNs.
        Teaching Safe Internet Practices to Students 
  • Age-appropriate strategies for primary and middle school students.
  • Recognizing and reporting cyberbullying and suspicious activities.

Day 4 – THURSDAY 

  • AI in Education – Opportunities and Risks
  • Overview of AI tools in education (e.g., adaptive learning platforms, administrative tools).
  • Opportunities: personalized learning, efficiency, and accessibility.
  • AI Risks and Challenges 
    • Risks: bias, privacy concerns, and over-reliance.
    • Case studies: Ethical dilemmas with AI use in schools.

Day 5 – FRIDAY 

  • Ethical Frameworks for AI Use in Schools
  • Key principles: transparency, accountability, and fairness.
     Ethical AI Policies for Schools 
  • Developing school guidelines for AI usage.
  • Interactive session: Drafting ethical AI policies.

Days 6 – SATURDAY 

  • Training School Staff and Students
